Jubilee Kitchen Wax is my favorite obscure cleaning product. It’s what I used to make these 50-year-old white laminate countertops shine again. If you have some old or even new Formica in your house, pick this up at Ace Hardware.
If your home was built a little later, and has cultured marble in the bathrooms, grab a can of Gel-Gloss. I used it to polish this vanity. It even removed old nail polish drips.
Zep Grout Whitener is what was needed for this tile. I forgot to take a close-up after photo, but trust me, that grout was supposed to be white and it was again before I listed the house.
What about when the grout isn’t grout? This tile is set in mortar. The spaces between the tiles have become discolored. When no amount of scrubbing is working, it is time for grout colorant. It will work on mud- set tiles like these as well as regular grouted tile. It comes in a wide range of colors so you even take the opportunity to change the color completely.
Before you spend any money replacing original finishes, try to restore them first. If you’re struggling with a particular material, give me a call. I come across all kinds of ideas in various vintage home lover groups and may be able to help.
